Westlake is a city in western Palm Beach County, Florida, set inland from the coast along Seminole Pratt Whitney Road near the rural communities of Loxahatchee and The Acreage. It is one of Florida's newer incorporated cities, established on June 22, 2016, as the 39th municipality in Palm Beach County, and it has grown from a large master-planned community into a full-fledged city. The city was conceived as a roughly 3,800-acre master-planned development by Minto Communities, with a name chosen in part as a nod to Weston, a similar large-scale planned community in neighboring Broward County. From the outset, Westlake was designed as a mixed-use, lifestyle-oriented community — envisioned as a "new downtown" for central Palm Beach County, with residential villages, commercial space, and civic amenities arranged around a walkable core rather than a conventional sprawl pattern. Today Westlake is home to roughly 7,000 residents, and its planned build-out continues to add homes, parks, and services. The Westlake Adventure Park, with its pools, water slide, and family recreation facilities, anchors community life and is available to residents of the city's villages, including Skycove and Skycove South. The School District of Palm Beach County serves the city's students. Westlake's inland setting gives it a distinct character from Palm Beach County's coastal cities. To the west and north lie the large-lot, equestrian-oriented communities of Loxahatchee and The Acreage, while to the east, Seminole Pratt Whitney Road connects toward the county's established suburbs and employment centers. For homebuyers, Westlake offers new-construction, master-planned living with resort-style amenities and a deliberate town-center design, a combination that has made it one of South Florida's most closely watched new communities.
